We are working in a time of super-challenging and rapidly growing environments. Usually, there are times when the stress level reaches its peak. According to the American Institute of Stress, 80% of employees feel stress at work and 60% of absenteeism was associated with stress at work. Life is not restricted to our professional hours but it is extended to all 24 hours. You have to make the most out of every hour of the day.
Peace does not mean to be in a situation where there is no sound. It means to be in the middle of that chaos and still remaining calm. How many of us can say with assurance that we have mental peace at work? That we are calm even if there is chaos at work? Not many can.
Basically, chaos comes in the form of difficulty, insecurities, fears, and an inability to manage the situation. That’s when you need to channelize your inner peace to overcome stress. All that outer chaos simply represents our mental state, and by calming that chaos, our inner peace is found again. With all the uncertainties and stress in daily life, it’s hard to maintain peace amidst the challenges of life.
So, listing down some of the daily habits that will help you maintain calmness and a peaceful mind in dealing with challenges in your day to day life are mentioned below:
- Build strong Connections with positive and like-minded people and ignore the rest, particularly the toxic people.
- No matter how much work is at the table, break it into pieces and do only relevant deadlines every day with quality.
- Watch funny shows or a standup during office commutes.
- Exercise/meditate in the morning.
- Take proper sleep and have healthy food habits.
- Take daily breaks and relax.
If you are doing everything perfectly that you can control, you wouldn't face many challenges even dealing with a few things that are not enough within your control.
To survive and grow we need to find ways to deal with stress and uncertainty and Mental wellness coaching helps tremendously in building Mental Strength & Emotional Balance. There’s a lot of scientific research that shows the connection between Peace and Productivity.
Let me share some of the ways to maintain peace at work on a daily basis:
Focus on one task at a time - For me and most people, multi-tasking typically leads to confusion. I always pick the task that needs the most attention, work on it, and head on to the next task that needs to be completed.
Be Flexible - No matter how precisely we plan, there’s always a chance that a situation will pop up that takes priority over everything we’ve planned. When this happens, take a moment to reframe and plan systematically to deal with the new issue.
Plan in Advance - Decide in advance on a few events that could happen and how you will manage them. We don’t always know what’s going to happen, but we apparently have a good idea of the common types of stress we may face on a daily basis.
Concentrate more on the positive - Criticizing personally for all we didn’t get done does not help. Rather we are far better off being thankful for all that we did do. The more we practice looking on the brighter side of things, the less scary and gloomy a stressful situation appears to be.
Regulate your breathing - Whenever you are anxious, you tend to take quick, simple breaths, which can make you feel light-headed and panicky. It can also limit your experience. If you catch yourself gasping, try inhaling a deep breath through your nose, holding it a second, and releasing it from your mouth. Repeat this activity until you feel calm. This is a kind of relaxing meditation.
Exercise Regularly - Many studies have shown that exercise reduces stress, anxiety, and even panic. This is because exercise increases the number of feel-good hormones like serotonin, and reduces cortisol which is the main stress hormone. Thankfully, you don’t need to become an overnight gym freak to control your stress. You just need to move in a way that gets your heartbeat tone up for twenty minutes a day. A fast walk around the neighborhood or a yoga session would all be excellent.
The Takeaway
If stress is limelight on something we consider that is under warning, it’s no wonder we’re all moving around feeling more stress than ever before. We care about our careers, being good parents, our health, our dreams, so many things, and still, there are barely so many hours in the day. By preparing our body and mind, and reframing daily activity, we can rise under pressure and not diminish under stress and if the work environment is toxic & is not helping you to grow, then move, move, move, you are not a tree.
In case none of the tricks helps. Do feel free to take professional help from a Mental Wellness Coach.
